Speaker Information

Dr. Kristina Elizabeth Hawk, MS MD PhD MBA is a physician scientist, Nuclear Medicine Physician and Neuroradiologist. Following an undergraduate degree in Molecular Cell Biology at UC Berkley, Dr. Hawk completed a masters in medical radiation physics and a PhD in Neuroscience at The Chicago Medical School (RFUMS). She then completed her medical doctorate, residency and dual fellowship requirements at the University of Southern California (USC), and is now dual board certified in Nuclear and Molecular Medicine as well as Radiology. She also completed an executive MBA with Pepperdine University. Dr Hawk is an Assistant Professor for the Stanford School of Medicine, Department of Radiology, Division of Nuclear Medicine. Her presentation will discuss the potential applications of AI in medical imaging, explore different ways that healthcare providers in radiology can drive AI innovation and discuss the ethical challenges associated with integrating AI solutions into medical imaging.

Dr. Michael Noseworthy, PhD, PEng. Received a M.Sc. from the University of Guelph for work in the evaluation of anaesthetic hepatotoxicity using MRI, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and in vivo 31P-NMR. He then obtained a PhD from University of Guelph (1997) specializing in applications of MRI/MRS and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) methods to assess free radical induced brain damage. His presentation will discuss the basics of machine learning and deep learning, k-space and undersampling strategies will be described and how new deep learning approaches can be used for image reconstruction.

Dr. Abhilash Hareendran, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Alberta, focuses on artificial intelligence (AI), medical image analysis, and ultrasound imaging. His international experience includes collaborating with diverse research teams in Singapore, Germany, and Canada. During his Ph.D. at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, he developed machine learning techniques for image-guided non-invasive surgery. His presentation focuses on challenges in the current pediatric emergency care pathway, opportunities to empower lightly trained staff in POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound), and the use of AI as an enabler in pediatric emergency departments.

Dr. Raymond Mak, PMD, is an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School and Director of Clinical Innovation in the Department of Radiation Oncology and the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Mak’s research interests focus on developing imaging biomarkers to predict radiation therapy response in lung cancer patients and applying artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to automate radiation therapy planning and improve decision support. He is leading clinical testing and implementation of AI throughout the patient care spectrum of radiation oncology, including clinical trials. His presentation discusses how AI is being implemented at each step of care in radiation oncology and the potential ways AI can improve care; how AI can be used to improve patient safety and quality; impact of AI on clinicians and staff in a radiation oncology department through; examples of interactions between AI and humans in the clinic; potential pitfalls and risks of AI deployment in the clinic.
